Before Upgrading to StorageConsole 9.1
• Identify the Java Version on the Data Collector Server and ensure that a 64-bit server is used for the Data Collector Server.
• Refer to the following documentation:
• APTARE StorageConsole 9.1 Certified Configurations Guide
• Data Collector Installation Guides
• APTARE StorageConsole 9.1 Installation and Upgrade Guide for Linux
• APTARE StorageConsole 9.1 Installation and Upgrade Guide for Windows
Data Collector Upgrades
IMPORTANT: The Data Collector aptare.jar may not upgrade automatically. Use the following criteria to determine if you need to upgrade each Data Collector. [18871]
Step 1: Verify if a Data Collector aptare.jar Upgrade is Required
Current Portal Version | Current aptare.jar | 9.1 Upgrade Requirement |
9.0.00 | any | |
9.0.01 | 9.0.1.01 | |
9.0.01 | 9.0.1.02 | |
9.0.01 | 9.0.1.03 | No Data Collector aptare.jar upgrade is required. The correct 9.1 aptare.jar will be applied if automatic upgrades are configured. |
9.0.02 | any | No Data Collector aptare.jar upgrade is required. The correct 9.1 aptare.jar will be applied if automatic upgrades are configured. |
* Once you’ve upgraded your Data Collector to aptare.jar version 9.0.1.03, the automatic upgrader will work as expected, provided you have configured automatic upgrades, as described in “Managing and Monitoring Data Collection” in the APTARE StorageConsole User’s Guide.
Step 2: Upgrade the Data Collector aptare.jar
Choose one of the following options to upgrade a Data Collector. Only execute one of these options.
Option 1: First upgrade the Data Collector to the latest aptare.jar version (9.0.1.03) and then upgrade the Portal to version 9.1. After the upgrade, the correct 9.1 aptare.jar will be applied if automatic upgrades are configured.
Option 2: After the Portal has been upgraded to 9.1, any version of the 9.x Data Collector can be upgraded manually using the <HOME>/mbs/bin/downloadlib.sh or <HOME>\mbs\bin\downloadlib.bat script.
Upgrading Data Collectors
When upgrading within 9.x release versions, for example from 9.0 to 9.1 refer to
Step 1: Verify if a Data Collector aptare.jar Upgrade is Required. When upgrading from version 8.4.x, there are special considerations. The following table outlines those considerations.
Upgrading from APTARE StorageConsole 8.4.02 to 9.1
Due to enhancements to Data Collectors in APTARE StorageConsole 9, if you are upgrading from APTARE StorageConsole 8.4.02, all Data Collectors must be re-installed. The re-install process uses the data collector installer to detect the necessary upgrades. This smart process recognizes your existing configuration and will use the same URL, Data Collector Name, and Passcode. Policies are retained when Data Collectors are re-installed.
To re-install a Data Collector run the relevant script:
• sc_datacollector_linux_9100.bin
• sc_datacollector_win_9100.exe
NetBackup Data Collection Updates for APTARE StorageConsole 9.1
The following configuration details related to centralized NetBackup data collection need to be taken into consideration when upgrading to APTARE StorageConsole 9.1.
• Minimum Requirements: 64-bit OS, 2 CPUs and 16 GB RAM.
• If there is a firewall between the NetBackup Master Servers and the Data Collector Server, ensure that bi-directional port communication is open on ports 1556 and 13724.
• For Linux servers, the entire NetBackup Master Server installation is required, since the Linux NetBackup installer does not have a NetBackup Remote Administration Console installer.
• The NetBackup software version on the Data Collector must match the major and minor version of the NetBackup software that is installed on the master server that is being probed. When the Data Collector starts, it checks versions and halts collection for the master server where the mismatch is found. Refer to the Symantec documentation for more information about major and minor version requirements.
• If you are currently running StorageConsole 9.0 with centralized NetBackup data collection, and if the NetBackup software versions don’t match, data collection will cease for the master servers with the incompatible versions, when you upgrade to StorageConsole 9.1.
• Centralized Data Collectors installed on Linux servers need to have the NetBackup master or media server software installed and licensed.
• Update the Windows registry to configure the NetBackup master server. The registry is located at: \HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VERITAS\NetBackup\CurrentVersion\Config\
NAME - EMMSERVER
TYPE - REG_SZ
DATA - <name of the NetBackup master server>
