Deleting, Removing and Moving Host Group Members
Once your host groups are populated, you can easily move members to different groups, remove members from a group, and permanently delete a member.
Warning: If you choose to Delete a Member Permanently, you are deleting hosts from host groups and the reporting database. A pop-up window warns you of this action to prevent inadvertent deletions. See Decommissioning a Master Server. In most cases, you should remove a host from a group, thereby un-linking it from its relationship with other machines in that group. Also, you can easily move or add a host to other groups using the copy, cut, and paste options.
To remove or move host group members
1. Select Admin > Hosts and Domains > Hosts and Host Groups.
2. Click the host group folder from which you want to delete the host. A list of host group members is displayed.
3. Select the members that you want to remove from the Host Group. Note that you can select multiple members using the typical browser select actions—Ctrl-Click and Shift-Click.
4. Click the button from the set of actions at the bottom of the Members pane.
Remove - Removes the member from the selected host group. It does not delete it from the Portal database.
Permanently Delete - Permanently deletes the host from the database and all host groups to which it belongs. All historical information, including backup job details, will be deleted from the database.
Decommissioning a Master Server
When you decommission a master server from your enterprise, you must let the Portal know that it is no longer available for reporting. Because this master server collected backup data for clients, you do not want to remove it from the database because you would lose the historical data.
To decommission a master server, rather than deleting it, you can change its host type from master to client. By changing the type, you preserve the backup data that was collected for the clients.
