IBM XIV - Planning the Data Collector Deployment
1. Identify a server where the Data Collector software will be installed. Server requirements include:
• 64-bit OS. See the APTARE StorageConsole Certified Configurations Guide for supported operating systems.
• Support Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.7.
• Reside in the same time zone as the subsystem from which data will be collected.
• If the backup servers belong to a cluster, StorageConsole communicates with the cluster for data collection.
• For performance reasons, APTARE recommends that you do not install Data Collectors on the same server as the StorageConsole Portal. However, if you must have both on the same server, verify that the Portal and Data Collector software do not reside in the same directory.
• Install only one Data Collector on a server (or OS instance).
2. On the Data Collector server, add entries to the local hosts file, both resolving to the Portal server IP address.
 
Example:
• 172.16.2.2 aptareportal.<yourdomain>.com
• 172.16.2.3 aptareagent.<yourdomain>.com
Data Collector Configurations Specific to IBM XIV
 
1. XCLI must be installed on the Data Collector server.
2. Gather the following required configuration details:
• IBM XIV XCLI Location: Location of the XCLI on the Data Collector server.
• User ID & Password: Credentials for the user ID that has monitor group privileges on the storage array.
3. In the Portal, configure a Data Collector policy using the following additional details.

Domain
Typically, only one domain is listed; Managed Services Providers will have a domain for each customer.
Array Addresses
IP addresses of the IBM Storage Arrays
IBM XIV XCLI location
The location of the XCLI executable on the Data Collector server, for example:
Linux: /opt/ibm/xch
Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\XIV\GUI10 or C:\Program Files\XIV\GUI10, C:\Program Files\IBM\Storage\XIV\XIVGUI
User ID & Password
The user ID for the account that has monitor group privileges on the storage array.
Array Details
Select to collect array details and set the frequency with which to collect the data.
Array Performance Schedule
Select to collect performance data for IBM XIV arrays, determine the frequency with which to collect the data.
4. On the Data Collector server, install/update the Data Collector software, using the instructions in the APTARE StorageConsole Data Collector Installation Guide for Capacity Manager.
