HP 3PAR - Planning the Data Collector Deployment

Version 9.2.00
For details, refer to the APTARE StorageConsole Certified Configurations Guide and the APTARE StorageConsole Data Collector Installation Guide for Capacity Manager.
HP 3PAR - Planning the Data Collector Deployment
1. Identify a server where the Data Collector software will be installed. Server requirements include:
64-bit OS. See the APTARE StorageConsole Certified Configurations Guide for supported operating systems.
Support Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.7.
Reside in the same time zone as the subsystem from which data will be collected.
If the backup servers belong to a cluster, StorageConsole communicates with the cluster for data collection.
For performance reasons, APTARE recommends that you do not install Data Collectors on the same server as the StorageConsole Portal. However, if you must have both on the same server, verify that the Portal and Data Collector software do not reside in the same directory.
Install only one Data Collector on a server (or OS instance).
2. On the Data Collector server, add entries to the local hosts file, both resolving to the Portal server IP address.

Example:
172.16.2.2 aptareportal.<yourdomain>.com
172.16.2.3 aptareagent.<yourdomain>.com
Data Collector Configurations Specific to HP 3PAR

1. Note the ports used by the HP 3PAR Data Collector: Port 22 for SSH, TCP 5988 for SMI-S.
2. Gather the following required configuration details:
3PAR Addresses/Name: IP addresses or host names of the HP 3PAR Storage Systems.
Array User ID & Password: Credentials for the 3PAR Storage Systems, with browse rights.
3. Determine Collection Method: CLI, CIM server, or CIM server over HTTPS.
For CIM Servers, version 2.3.1, use a CLI (command-line interface) collector, not the SMI-S collector.
4. Configure a Data Collector policy using the following additional details.
Field
Description
Domain
Typically, only one domain is listed; Managed Services Providers will have a domain for each customer.
HP 3PAR Storage System Address(es)
IP addresses or host names of the HP 3PAR Storage Systems from which you want to collect data. See the Data Collector Installation Guide for information about enabling and disabling the CIM Server. If collecting via the CIM Server, ports 5988/5989 will be used by default. To specify a different port number, append to the IP address as :<port>. eg. 172.16.10.101, 172.16.10.102:7876.
Collection Method*
Choose Use Command Line Interface (CLI) to login to the HP 3PAR Storage System via SSH and use the command line. For CIM Servers, version 2.3.1, use a CLI collector, not the SMI-S collector. Choose Use Cim Server to force the collector to collect via the HP 3PAR CIM Server. Choose Use Cim Server over HTTPS to connect to the HP 3PAR CIM Server via HTTPS.
User ID & Password
User ID for the HP 3PAR Storage Systems. The User ID and Password must be the same for all systems identified in the Address field. The HP 3PAR user account must have Browse rights.
Array Details
Select the check box to activate the array details collection.
Array Performance
Select the check box to activate the array performance collection.
5. On the Data Collector server, install/update the Data Collector software, using the instructions in the APTARE StorageConsole Data Collector Installation Guide for Capacity Manager.
