EMC CLARiiON (VNX Block) - Planning the Data Collector Deployment

Version 9.2.00
For details, refer to the APTARE StorageConsole Certified Configurations Guide and the APTARE StorageConsole Data Collector Installation Guide for Capacity Manager.
EMC CLARiiON (VNX Block) - Planning the Data Collector Deployment
1. Identify a server where the Data Collector software will be installed. Server requirements include:
64-bit OS. See the APTARE StorageConsole Certified Configurations Guide for supported operating systems.
Support Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.7.
Reside in the same time zone as the subsystem from which data will be collected.
If the backup servers belong to a cluster, StorageConsole communicates with the cluster for data collection.
For performance reasons, APTARE recommends that you do not install Data Collectors on the same server as the StorageConsole Portal. However, if you must have both on the same server, verify that the Portal and Data Collector software do not reside in the same directory.
Install only one Data Collector on a server (or OS instance).
Data Collector Configurations Specific to EMC CLARiiON

1. Note the port used by the EMC CLARiiON Data Collector: NaviCLI 443/2163/6389/6390/6391/6392.
2. NaviSecCLI must be installed on the Data Collector server.
3. A low security level for certificates is required. Ensure this setting by using the following command:
naviseccli security -certificate -setLevel low
4. Gather the following required configuration details:
Array Addresses: List of IP addresses to be probed, only one storage processor address per array.
EMC Navi Client Software Location: Path of the software installation.
NaviSuite User ID & Password: Credentials for a view-only user ID.
5. Configure a Data Collector policy using the following additional details.
Field
Description
Domain
Typically, only one domain is listed; Managed Services Providers will have a domain for each customer.
Array Addresses
Comma-separated list of IP addresses to be probed. List only one SP (storage processor) IP address per array. Typically, only the IP addresses are required, with port 443 used as the default. To change the port that the Data Collector uses to communicate with the array, use the format: <ipaddress>:<port number>. For example: 172.16.1.1:445
EMC Navi Client Software Location
Examples:
Unix: /opt/Navisphere/bin
Windows: C:\Program Files\EMC\Navisphere CLI
User ID & Password
View-only user ID and password for CLARiiON NaviSuite.
Array Details
Click the clock icon to create a schedule.
Array Performance
Activate array performance collection. Note that at least two collections from this array must be performed BEFORE array performance data can be reported on.
6. On the Data Collector server, add entries to the local hosts file, both resolving to the Portal server IP address.
Example:
7. 172.16.2.2 hbsmportal.<yourdomain>.com
8. 172.16.2.3 hbsmagent.<yourdomain>.com
9. On the Data Collector server, install/update the Data Collector software, using the instructions in the APTARE StorageConsole Data Collector Installation Guide for Capacity Manager.
10. On the Data Collector server, add entries to the local hosts file, both resolving to the Portal server IP address.
Example:
11. 172.16.2.2 hbsmportal.<yourdomain>.com
12. 172.16.2.3 hbsmagent.<yourdomain>.com
13. On the Data Collector server, install/update the Data Collector software, using the instructions in the APTARE StorageConsole Data Collector Installation Guide for Capacity Manager.
