Dell Compellent - Planning the Data Collector Deployment
1. Identify a server where the Data Collector software will be installed. Server requirements include:
• 64-bit OS. See the APTARE StorageConsole Certified Configurations Guide for supported operating systems.
• Support Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.7.
• Reside in the same time zone as the subsystem from which data will be collected.
• If the backup servers belong to a cluster, StorageConsole communicates with the cluster for data collection.
• For performance reasons, APTARE recommends that you do not install Data Collectors on the same server as the StorageConsole Portal. However, if you must have both on the same server, verify that the Portal and Data Collector software do not reside in the same directory.
• Install only one Data Collector on a server (or OS instance).
2. On the Data Collector server, add entries to the local hosts file, both resolving to the Portal server IP address.
Example:
• 172.16.2.2 aptareportal.<yourdomain>.com
• 172.16.2.3 aptareagent.<yourdomain>.com
Data Collector Configurations Specific to Dell Compellent
1. Note the ports used by the Dell Compellent Data Collector: TCP 5988 SMI-S, 5989 SMI-S https, 1433 Database.
2. Gather the following required configuration details:
• Enterprise Manager Address: IP address or host name of the Dell Compellent Enterprise Manager.
• Enterprise Manager Database Address: IP address or host name of the Compellent Enterprise Manager database.
• Enterprise Manager Database Port: Port used by the Enterprise Manager database. This port is not enabled by default on the SQL server. After configuring this port on the SQL server, restart the server.
• Database User ID & Password: The SQL login must be a SQL Server authentication. Using Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio, on the Server Roles screen, only public needs to be checked. On the User Mapping screen, public and db_datareader should be checked for the compmsadb database.
• SMI-S Port: Port for access to the Enterprise Manager SMI-S Provider. Default is 5988.
• SMI-S User ID & Password: Credentials to log into the Enterprise Manager SMI-S Provider.
