Planning the Data Collector Deployment

Version 9.1
For details, refer to the APTARE StorageConsole 9.1 Certified Configurations Guide and the APTARE StorageConsole Data Collector Installation Guide for Capacity Manager.
Planning the Data Collector Deployment
1. Identify a server where the Data Collector software will be installed. Server requirements include:
Support Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.7
TCP Port 2001 is the default port for Hitachi array data collection.
Reside in the same time zone as the subsystem from which data will be collected
If collecting performance data, the Data Collector must be installed on the same server as HTnM (Tuning Manager). And, a single Data Collector policy must be used to collect both the capacity data from the Device Manager server and the performance data from the Tuning Manager server.
For performance reasons, APTARE StorageConsole Data Collectors should not be installed on the same server as the StorageConsole Portal. If, for some reason, you require both to be on the same server, be sure that both the Portal and Data Collector software do not reside in the same directory on the server.

2. On the Data Collector server, add entries to the local hosts file, both resolving to the Portal server IP address.
Example:
172.16.2.2 aptareportal.<yourdomain>.com
172.16.2.3 aptareagent.<yourdomain>.com
3. In the Portal, add or select a Data Collector: Admin > Data Collection > Collectors. The User ID and Passcode configured in this step will be used later when you install the Data Collector software on the Data Collector server.
This configuration enables communication between the Portal and the Data Collector server. Refer to the Data Collector installation guide for details.
4. Select the Data Collector and add a Hitachi NAS policy: Add > Hitachi NAS.
Field
Description
Domain
Typically, only one domain is listed; Managed Services Providers will have a domain for each customer.
HNAS Admin EVS Addresses*
Enter one or more Hitachi NAS Admin EVS addresses separated by commas.
Note: You must also create a separate Data Collector policy to collect the block storage that shares the space with Hitachi NAS (HNAS). Choose a relevant supported storage vendor policy such as Hitachi Block Storage.
Server Control (SSC) Utility Location
The location of the SSC command-line utility.
Linux: /usr/bin/ssc
Windows: c:\program files\ssc
User ID & Password
Create a user with supervisor privileges for accessing the Hitachi NAS.
Array Details
Click the clock icon to create a schedule.
5. On the Data Collector server, install/update the Data Collector software, using the instructions in the APTARE StorageConsole Data Collector Installation Guide for Capacity Manager.
