Planning the Data Collector Deployment

Version 9.1
For details, refer to the APTARE StorageConsole 9.1 Certified Configurations Guide and the APTARE StorageConsole Data Collector Installation Guide for Backup Manager.
Planning the Data Collector Deployment
1. Identify a server where the Data Collector software will be installed. Server requirements include:
64-bit OS. See the APTARE StorageConsole 9.1 Certified Configurations Guide for supported operating systems.
Support Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.7.
Reside in the same time zone as the subsystem from which data will be collected.
For performance reasons, APTARE recommends that you do not install Data Collectors on the same server as the StorageConsole Portal. However, if you must have both on the same server, verify that the Portal and Data Collector software do not reside in the same directory.
Install only one Data Collector on a server (or OS instance).
TCP ports 5555 and 22
2. On the Data Collector server, add entries to the local hosts file, both resolving to the Portal server IP address.
Example:
172.16.2.2 aptareportal.<yourdomain>.com
172.16.2.3 aptareagent.<yourdomain>.com
3. In the Portal, add a server for each Avamar server (Utility Node): Admin > Hosts and Domains > Hosts and Host Groups
External Name - Displayed in the Portal.
Internal Name - Must match the host name of the Avamar server; fully qualified domain name (FQDN).
IP Address of the Utility Node

OS Version
Type - EMC Avamar Server
4. In the Portal, add or select a Data Collector: Admin > Data Collection > Collectors. The User ID and Passcode configured in this step will be used later when you install the Data Collector software on the Data Collector server. This configuration enables communication between the Portal and the Data Collector server.
5. Select the Data Collector and add a Avamar policy for each Avamar server: Add > EMC Avamar.
Field
Description
Domain
Typically, only one domain is listed; Managed Services Providers will have a domain for each customer.
Backup Management Server
This is the EMC Avamar Server (Avamar Utility Node) with which the Data Collector will communicate. The servers that you added should all be listed here. Select one and verify that the IP address and OS information are correct.
Version
Version of EMC Avamar in your environment.
Server Address
The hostname or IP address used to connect to the Avamar management console database.
Backup Software Home
The directory under which all Avamar binaries and configuration files are kept.
Typically this is: /usr/local/avamar
User ID and Password
User name to log into the EMC Avamar management console database for reporting access. In a default install of Avamar, this is usually viewuser with a password of viewuser1.
Utility Node Username
The login credentials must have root-level access to the Avamar utility node in order for the Data Collector to invoke command-line programs in the /usr/local/avamar/bin directory.
Utility Node Password
Enter the password for the utility node username that has root-level access to the Avamar utility node.
6. On the Data Collector server, install/update the Data Collector software, using the instructions in the APTARE StorageConsole Data Collector Installation Guide for Backup Manager.
