Planning Guidelines
Use the guidelines in this section, along with the accompanying worksheets to gather the configuration information required for Data Collection deployment. This is a 2-step process.
1. Identify where the Data Collectors will be installed.
2. Determine what Data Collection Policies must be configured via the Portal.
Where to Install
• A single Data Collector can be installed for multiple backup, storage, and fabric products.
• Requirement for Interconnected Cisco switches: Interconnected switches, which share the same VSAN, must all be configured in the same StorageConsole Data Collector policy.
• Verify that a host-based SMI agent is installed. The SMI agent must be installed on a host that can communicate with the Fabric. See the relevant switch vendor documentation for details.
Required Ports
Cisco Switches: Default Ports and Firewall Considerations
The default ports for StorageConsole collection of Cisco switch data include:
• HTTP - 5988
• HTTPS - 5989
Brocade Switches: Default Ports and Firewall Considerations
The default ports for StorageConsole collection of Brocade switch data include:
• HTTP - 5988
• HTTPS - 5989
The following ports are not a StorageConsole-specific requirement, however, the Brocade SMI agent contacts the switch via RPC on port mapper port 111. Other RPC calls use ports 897 (non-secure) and 898 (secure). If a firewall exists between the Brocade SMI agent and the Brocade fabric, the following ports must be open:
• RPC on port mapper - 111
• RPC (non-secure) - 897
• RPC (secure) - 898
McData Switches: Default Ports and Firewall Considerations
The default ports for StorageConsole collection of McData switch data include:
• HTTP - 5988
• HTTPS - 5989
Note: If a firewall exists between the SMI agent and SMI client, the above ports must be open.
The following ports are not a StorageConsole-specific requirement, however, McData supports two different configurations when adding switches to your environment, which dictates the other ports that need to be open:
McData Direct Connection Mode: If a firewall exists between the SMI agent and the McData switch in direct-mode operation, the following port numbers must be open:
• 20 - FTP data
• 21 - FTP control
• 23 - Telnet/sectelnet
• 161 - SNMP
• 162 - SNMP Trap
• 2048, 2049 - MPI discovery
• 80 - HTTP
• 443 - HTTPS
• 1812, 1813 - RADIUS
McData EFCM/DCFM Proxy Mode: If a firewall exists between the SMI agent and the McData switch in EFCM/DCFM Proxy Mode, the following port numbers must be open:
• 80 - HTTP
• 51511 - API Server-to-Client communication
• 51510 - API Server-to-Client export
• 55555 - API Client-to-Server export
• 51513 - ECCAPI
• 8081 - Web proxy
