IBM TSM - Planning the Data Collector Deployment

Version 10.0.00
For details, refer to the APTARE StorageConsole Certified Configurations Guide and the APTARE StorageConsole Data Collector Installation Guide for Backup Manager.
IBM TSM - Planning the Data Collector Deployment
1. Identify a server where the Data Collector software will be installed. Server requirements include:
64-bit OS. See the APTARE StorageConsole Certified Configurations Guide for supported operating systems.
Support Java Runtime Environment (JRE) 1.7.
For performance reasons, APTARE recommends that you do not install Data Collectors on the same server as the StorageConsole Portal. However, if you must have both on the same server, verify that the Portal and Data Collector software do not reside in the same directory.
Install only one Data Collector on a server (or OS instance).
For most Backup Manager systems, install the Data Collector on a server that is in the same time zone as the backup server from which you are collecting data. For Veritas NetBackup and IBM TSM collection, the Data Collector server and backup server can be in different time zones.
A TSM client must be installed on the Data Collector server with the dsmadmc command available.
Ports to TSM instances must be open. Each instance will have a unique port. Make note of these instance/port combinations for data collection.
On the Data Collector server, add entries to the local hosts file, both resolving to the Portal server IP address.
Example:
172.16.2.2 aptareportal.<yourdomain>.com
172.16.2.3 aptareagent.<yourdomain>.com
Data Collector Configurations Specific to TSM

1. Note the port used by the TSM Data Collector (dsmadmc): TCP 1500.
2. TSM data collection requires a dedicated Data Collector.
3. In the Portal, add a TSM server: Admin > Hosts and Domains > Hosts and Host Groups.
dsmadmc must be installed on this server.
This server must be added to dsm.sys so the Data Collector can use the dsmadmc command.
Internal Name - Must match the host name of the TSM server.
IP Address - IP address of the TSM server.
Type - TSM Server.
4. Instance Name: For Linux TSM servers, use the TSM Instance Name. For MS Windows, use the IP address of the TSM Instance.
5. Backup Software Location: Path to the TSM Admin Client software (dsmadmc) on the Data Collector server.
6. Configure a view-only User ID and Passcode in the Data Collector policy to enable communication between the Portal and the Data Collector server.
7. Configure a Data Collector policy using the following details.
Field
Description
Domain
Typically, only one domain is listed; Managed Services Providers will have a domain for each customer.
IBM TSM Instances
This is the TSM Host Server with which the Data Collector will communicate. The servers that you added should all be listed here. Select one and verify that the IP address and OS information are correct.
Instance Name
Linux TSM host servers: TSM Instance Name
Windows TSM host servers: IP address of TSM instance
Host Port
The port number for TSM administrative sessions (the value of the TCPADMINPORT server option). Each instance will have its own specific port.
Backup Software Location
Home of the dsmadmc command on the Data Collector Server.
Windows default: C:\Program Files\Tivoli\TSM\baclient
Linux default: /opt/tivoli/tsm/client/ba/bin
User ID and Password
TSM ID with query and select privileges.
8. On the Data Collector server, install/update the Data Collector software, using the instructions in the APTARE StorageConsole Data Collector Installation Guide for Backup Manager.
