Array Capacity & Utilization - (EMC VNX CLARiiON View)
Use Search to find a template, report or dashboard by name. Search is case insensitive, supports partial entries, and will display a list of potential matches.
As you enter the name in the Search field, up to 10 potential matches are displayed. If the template, report or dashboard is shown, you can select and run it directly from the match list. You can also click All Items in the match list to go directly to the Search Results.
StorageConsole provides different navigation options to slice and examine your collected data. You can explore the data by using the APTARE customizable report templates or by using parts of your IT infrastructure as entry points. The Inventory Navigator serves as a browser for your infrastructure by object type.
Use the Reports tab to examine the StorageConsole catalog of templates, dashboards and reports - organized by products along with user-created, and system folders. This report is located here:
The Array Capacity and Utilization report provides an overview of storage array capacity and utilization. Use this report to identify storage arrays that are under utilized or highly utilized.
The Array Capacity & Utilization report represents EMC VNX (CLARiiON) storage array details.
Storage Array
The name that you assigned to the array. Available values include all supported storage arrays.
Family
The family classification of the storage array as assigned by the vendor. Use this name to ascertain the vendor’s product specifications.
Type
The specific model of the storage array.
Vendor
The name of the vendor that distributes the storage array.
Product
The name of the product, typically shown as a series number. This field provides an indicator of capacity specifications, such as LUNs, hosts per array, and drives per array.
# Hosts
This is the total number of unique hosts that have LUNs assigned by this storage array, and the hosts have been successfully queried using one or more host resource policies. If zero, host resources data has not been collected. Click the value to go to the Host Capacity & Utilization.
# Ports
The number of ports in the array. Click the value to view the Array Port Utilization.
Host Usage
Physical Summary
Capacity
For EMC CLARiiON arrays: Sum of the capacity of all physical disks from all array groups—including spares (drives that are not allocated to an array group).
Allocated
Allocated storage is physical storage consumed, including parity overhead and system overhead. A gap between raw and allocated capacity may indicate unused capacity, such as drives in a rack that are not in use.
Available
Total raw capacity of the array that has not been allocated. The size is displayed in the units you selected with the Advanced option when you generated the report.
% Available
Expressed as a percentage, total capacity of the LUNs in the array that have not been assigned to a host and that are available for provisioning. This percentage is a better capacity indicator than the number shown as Available Size.
Raw Usage
Expressed as a percentage, total capacity of the LUNs in the array that have been assigned to a host and that are not available for provisioning.
Raw RAID Group Summary
# RAID Groups
The number of array groups in the storage array. Links to List Array Groups.
RAID Groups Capacity
Total capacity of the array groups in the storage array.
RAID Groups Used
Total used capacity of the array groups (by LUNs) in the storage array.
RAID Groups Available
Available capacity of the array groups in the storage array.
RAID Group Usage
Thermometer with a tooltip that displays the percentage used.
LUN Summary
# LUNs
The number of LUNs that have been created on the array. Click the link to view the LUN Utilization Summary.
Total LUN Capacity
The total capacity for the LUNs.
# Allocated LUNs
The number of LUNs on the array that have been mapped to a host. These LUNs are typically configured as volumes on the host and dedicated to an application. storage array --> array port --> host storage domain --> HBA port --> host. Click the link to view the LUN Utilization Summary.
Allocated LUN Capacity
The total storage capacity for the allocated LUNs.
# UnAllocated LUNs
The number of LUNs that have yet to be allocated.
UnAllocated LUN Capacity
The available LUN capacity.
LUN Usage
Thermometer with a tooltip that displays the percentage allocated, calculated as Allocated divided by (Allocated + Unallocated).
Thin Provisioning
# of Pools
Number of thin pools
Raw Capacity
The raw capacity of the pool. Raw capacity is the summation of the physical disks.
User Capacity
The physical capacity that’s available to all LUNs in the storage pool; also known as usable capacity or host-visible capacity.
Consumed Capacity
The physical capacity that is assigned to all LUNs in the storage pool. From the array’s perspective, consumed capacity is the same as allocated capacity.
% Used
Consumed Capacity divided by User Capacity
Available Capacity
The physical pool storage that is not allocated to pool LUNs
Subscribed Capacity
The physical capacity that has been given to hosts/applications; this is from the host’s perspective
% Oversubscribed
Oversubscribed capacity refers to Subscribed Capacity that exceeds User Capacity.
